Michael Jackson Leaves a Legacy of Passion

It’s hard to believe that Michael Jackson is dead.   Through his blockbuster career, Jackson epitomized a true passion – for music, dance and creativity.  Yes, his life was surrounded by speculation, rumors, and criticism, but no one can deny his talent and forerunning spirit.

Crowned the “King of Pop,” Jackson was considered an innovator.  Today he is still hailed for the release of Thriller, the best-selling album of all time. The 1982 album included such hits as “Beat it,” “Billie Jean” and “Thriller.”  Though estimates vary, it is believed that 60 to 65 million copies of the album have been sold worldwide.

At any age Jackson thrilled audiences from American to Japan to the Philippines.  His work transcended racial and generational barriers.  When he performed, Jackson became another man, giving his fans a huge bang for their buck.   Weeks after, ticket-goers were still spellbound and craving more of his magic.   How many celebrities have that kind of an affect on a crowd?

In fact, he’s still affecting crowds.  Undoubtedly, London 02 Arena ticket-holders are grieving over his passing.   Starting July 13, they would have witnessed Jackson’s career comeback, with his 50-show set.   With no comeback in place, plans are now in the works to air an eight-hour rehearsal that was taped on the evening prior to his death.  In any case, fans will continue dancing in the streets.

Decades from now, people may recall Jackson’s hits, misses, ups and downs, but more than anything, they will remember his musical and charitable contributions to the world.  No one will ever dance, sing or impact people the way he did, in his own, unique musical style.   In a rare interview with Ebony magazine, and at the height of controversy surrounding his life, Jackson said he wanted “his music to influence and inspire people. “

Being a genius doesn’t mean you’re perfect or that you always make the right choices.  Greatness does not guarantee a flawless life.  But the pressures of life can, many times, squeeze out the best you have to offer.  Like Jackson, there is greatness on the inside of you and it must be squeezed and released.  You, too, have the capacity to leave the world in “awe” now and forever.  Imagine Jackson passing the “passion torch” on to you.  How will you run with it?
