Are you ready to party into the New Year? If not, you better get busy. You only have a day and a half left. As you know, New Years Eve is one of the most celebrated holidays of the year. Right now, partygoers all over the world are anticipating the laughter, music and excitement that will make even the simplest gathering feel like a festival. It’s a great way to welcome the New Year and its wonderful possibilities.
On Thursday, between evening and dawn, you may be making your moves on the dance floor, caught up in the moment, without a care in the world, but even great NYE parties must come to an end. As the cool wind of January blows in, the music stops and the wine runs out, it will be time to embrace a new day and to prepare for the 364 more to come. The question is: How ready are you for 2010? Think deep. Your answer may dictate the course your life will take next year.
Let’s take a moment to check your readiness level? Truthfully answer “yes” or “no” to the questions below. Here we go:
#1. Did you set and accomplish your personal, professional and educational goals
in 2009?
#2. Do you have loving, trustworthy, supportive friends in your life?
#3. Of all the decisions you made last year, would you still make 80% of the same
choices today?
#4. Do you believe you have real joy in your life?
If you answered “no” to any of the questions, you may not be as ready for 2010 as you imagine.
Tell me, would you marry a person you haven’t met yet? Of course not. You would want to know as much about the person as possible before making such an important decision. Mostly, you would need to develop a relationship or foundation for the marriage. Every aspect of our life works this way. So, before you start making those plans for the New Year, you need to determine if you have the right foundation upon which to build new plans. In other words, how well did you handle your life the last 363 days?
To begin, you may need to review your personal 2009 DVD. Usually I wouldn’t advise anyone moving forward to focus on the past. In this case, however, it will help you get a better perspective on what adjustments or changes are needed to move forward.
Let’s start with the first quiz question. If you never set goals in ‘09, set unrealistic goals or didn’t reach your goals, ask yourself what hindered me? How will I prevent this from happening again?
2010 is more than a New Year. It’s an opportunity to redeem lost time and to make new, better and more productive choices. It offers a unique door of opportunity, one which you must walk through if you want to enjoy a better life. If you don’t walk through this door, you’ll find yourself traveling through the corridor of Regret instead of the corridor of Anticipation and Promise. And surely, you don’t want to go there!
In my next Blogs, I will share the steps necessary to approach 2010 with a fresh, bold, new outlook. I will give you strategies to help avoid past mistakes and self-defeating choices. It’s time to take control of your life. Life isn’t really about one year. You have a divine date with destiny. And believe me, that’s one party you don’t want to miss!
